I've previously posted about the 20th anniversary of Teachmeet this year.

Danny Nicholson is organising a special online Teachmeet on the 3rd of July.

This is actually the first day of my summer break, so will be a nice way to end the term by picking up lots of ideas from those who are chosen to present.

RGS Secondary Geography Teachmeet - February 2026

Claire Brown is organising another RGS Teachmeet for geography teachers in February 2026.

There are 6 slots available for an 8 minute talk on a topic of your choice.

Claire says:

"I'd really like to open this speaker opportunity up to teachers of geography who are perhaps new to the profession, or have been teaching a while but have never shared with others via CPD like this. Why not give it a go?"

RGS Teachmeet - 26th June

 

Why not join me in late June for the latest RGS-IBG Teachmeet - once again, it's online rather than face to face, but that allows people to join who would not be able to get to Kensington on a weekday evening, so that's fair enough.

I'll be speaking about pedagogical longevity, and how we can use the available support from professional organisations - including the GA and RGS-IBG - to provide the spark which will get us through those times when we question whether we can stay in the classroom.

For the last couple of years, there has been a teacher-led CPD event called Teachmeet HistoryIcons. It was developed by a group of history teachers, and runs very successfully with some sponsorship and support from companies and individuals, which mean the event is free to delegates. The next event is taking place in March 2018.

A group of geography teachers has been working on developing a Geography-related event which, with the backing of our History colleagues has now been organised by a rather fine group of  teachers, with a similar logo, and which will be hosted by the lovely folks at the University of Birmingham.
It will take place in June 2018.

The event has a keynote from a teacher and an academic, although Teachmeets don't traditionally have a keynote, this one does... and for some reason the very lovely and generous Mrs. Humanities, who is on the organising team, asked me to do the teacher highlight talk, and I was delighted to say yes.... There have been some very kind comments on Twitter as a result of this news going out yesterday...

There has been a History edition of this event for a few years, and the Geographers have now decided that it may be a good format to adopt... Save the date, and follow the Twitter feed and hashtag for more information as time passes... Will be hosted at the University of Birmingham.

There are several stages to the event.
From 11-1 is TEACHMEET HANDS ON.
Two hours of hands on activities. I was asked to come and do a Mission:Explore activity as part of this stage, but couldn't make it as already 'taken' that day.
Then there's the TEACHMEET from 2 - 5.45....

Sadly I can't make that weekend, otherwise I would be there....
